Privacy policy

This page describes what this site records. It was written from the code rather than from a template.
The short version
- There are no accounts and no sign-in.
- We do not record IP addresses or build browser fingerprints.Your browser's user-agent line is read to tell people from crawlers, and is not stored.
- Searches are kept for 180 days and then deleted.
- Some of what people search for is shown publicly on this site, in the “live searches” and “trending” lists.
- Preview images are served from our own servers, so the sites hosting the videos do not see your visits while you browse. When you click a result, you leave for that site.
- There is no advertising and no third-party script. Our analytics are self-hosted, on our own infrastructure: no third party receives anything about your visit, and no search terms are sent to them.
What we collect
When you search we store what you typed, how many results it found, how long it took, and an anonymous session id that identifies a browser rather than a person. If you have chosen a content preference — which includes whether to include trans content — that answer is stored next to every search you make, not only in the cookie on your device, and any filters you applied are stored with it too, along with which page of results you were shown — for the same 180 days as the rest of the search log.
We also record clicks through to a video, including its position in the results you were shown, so we can tell a genuinely better result from one that was simply higher up the page, the page that linked you here and the path you landed on, and anything you send us through a form — with the email address you give us, if you choose to give one. Searches we refuse, because they seek illegal material or are declined under our content rules, are recorded separately with their text so that a wrong refusal can be found and fixed.
Searches shown on the site
Search terms typed by visitors may be displayed publicly on this site — the “live searches” strip and the “trending” list are both built from the real search log. A phrase is only shown after several separate sessions have searched it and after a delay, so it is never a live view of one person, and refused searches are never shown. Nothing beside a displayed phrase identifies who searched it. If you would rather a phrase were not there, tell us through the contact form.
Why we log searches
A search that returns nothing is the best signal we have about what to transcribe next. Refusals are never mixed into that log and are never used to decide what to add.
Cookies
All of them are set by us, readable only by our server, and never sent to anyone else; there are no advertising or analytics cookies. They are: dts_sid, the anonymous session id; dts_age, recording that you clicked through the adults-only notice; dts_orient and dts_trans, holding your content preference; dts_seen, a timer that keeps a live visitor count cheap; and dts_admin and dts_internal, which are set only on the operator's own browser. Clearing cookies for this site removes all of them, and nothing here stops working without them.
How long we keep it
- Searches: 180 days. Before they are deleted they are rolled up into daily counts that carry no search text and no session id.
- Refused searches: 30 days.
- Where you arrived from: not recorded. We used to keep the referring site and landing page for 14 days. We no longer store either. What remains against a session is whether it looked like a person, a crawler or one of our own checks — no referrer, no landing page, no browser string.
- The session id itself: up to a year. It is a random id in a cookie, not a name or an account, but it is the same id across visits in the same browser — so searches made a month apart can be joined to each other. Those searches are covered by the 180-day line above; clearing cookies for this site starts a new id.
- Clicks and messages: no fixed limit today. We would rather say that than invent a schedule.
One caveat, because it is true: these deletions are run by an operator rather than by a timer. The windows are what they say and nothing runs them automatically.
Who else is involved
The site is hosted on DigitalOcean, the database is hosted by Neon, and our mailboxes are at Migadu. Any host necessarily handles the IP address of a request in order to answer it; none is written into our database. There is no analytics provider and no advertising network. We take no payments today and hold no card details — when paid features launch, a payment processor will handle them and this page will name it before the first charge.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, or delete personal data about you, wherever you live. In almost every case we hold nothing identifiable as yours — there are no accounts, no names and no IP addresses, and an anonymous session id is not something you can prove is yours. What we can act on is anything you sent us: tell us roughly when and what it said and we will find it and delete it. Leaving the content preference unset keeps it out of the search log, and clearing cookies removes what is on your device.
